  2.     RESTORE FILES
  3.  
  4.     This screen allows you to select the backup files to be restored.
  5.     Backups can be restored in full, by filename, or by individually
  6.     selected files. You can also preview a table of contents of a backup to
  7.     help select the files which are to be restored.

  9.     Viewing an Archive

  11.     First, select the archival device's logical name as set up in the
  12.     Configure Archive Devices window (see "Configure Devices" on page
  13.     6-2) by typing the name in (it must precisely match an existing
  14.     name) or by selecting it from the list of available devices.
  15.  
  16.     Next, if you place a file-matching pattern in the File Wildcards
  17.     text field, this pattern acts as a filter to viewing an archive. For
  18.     example, the pattern *pa* will find any file with the letters pa
  19.     embedded in the name, such as /etc/passwd and partition.save. If you
  20.     leave this field blank, all the files in the archive are listed in
  21.     the results.

  23.     Finally, click on the Table of Contents button. The full archive for
  24.     the backup device is scanned. If Enlighten encounters a multi-volume
  25.     archive generated through the Backup facility, it will prompt you to
  26.     exchange the media. At that time, you may interrupt the archive by
  27.     selecting Cancel. Once the scan is completed, the results are
  28.     displayed in the list box.

  30.     The list box is similar to that of the File Detail window; details
  31.     about the file (its size, owner, etc.) appear at the top of the list
  32.     box when you click on an entry. In this manner, you can preview
  33.     which files to restore should you decide to extract files from the
  34.     archive.

  36.     Note: Large archives, like those often found on a reel tape, may
  37.     take several minutes to scan.

  39.     Restoring an Archive

  41.     First, select the archival device's logical name as set up in the
  42.     Configure Archive Devices window (see "Configure Devices" on page
  43.     6-2) by typing the name in (it must precisely match an existing
  44.     name) or by selecting it from the list of available devices.
  45.  
  46.     Then, click on the Restore button to extract the contents of an
  47.     archive. The extraction is based on the following conditions, tested
  48.     in the order shown.

  50.     + If any entries are highlighted in the list box, only those files
  51.       are retrieved;
  52.  
  53.     + Otherwise, if a pattern is entered in the File Wildcards field,
  54.       only those files matching that pattern are retrieved. If this
  55.       pattern matches a directory, then the full directory - with all
  56.       subdirectories - is retrieved;
  57.  
  58.     + Otherwise, if neither of the above conditions is true, the full
  59.       archive is restored.

  61.     The status of the extract procedure is displayed in a text window.
  62.     You may stop the progress by pressing "Ctrl-C" (or your appropriate
  63.     interrupt key) within the window. If multi-volume archives are
  64.     encountered, Enlighten will prompt you to exchange the media. At
  65.     this point, you may Cancel the process, which will NOT impact those
  66.     files already fully restored during this process.

  68.     Note: Any tar files that were created without absolute pathnames
  69.     will be restored in the directory where Enlighten resides.
